It is with great excitement that we announce the commencement of one of our most significant projects using the new Xella Silka building system.

Working with Main Contractor Jenner (Contractors) Ltd of Folkestone, we have been awarded the contract to build the whole structural envelope of the 3 storey 59 Apartment Tonbridge Extra Care facility using a number of the Xella’s products.

With the groundworks and enabling works now well underway, MFS are scheduled to start on site at the end of March with the subs followed by the superstructures in April.

The adoption of the Silka Element system was key to the build speed that was required to meet the client’s programme and marks a significant milestone for Xella in its entry in the UK market.

Taking over 3 months off the traditional build programme, using Silka is a great example of how we have got so much that we can learn from, from the continent and how some of these new masonry systems can both drive efficiency in the project and the building process.

Masonry Frame Systems’ Director, Norman Hinckes commented ‘We firmly believe, the award of this project will be seen as a milestone for us and Xella in our 14 year history. It firmly marks Xellas’ entry into the UK with the Silka element system and will go on to change the face of the industry.  We all recognise the issues the industry faces and these systems will go a long way to helping address them’.

Norman also went on to say ’Credit must also be given to Jenner and the client for embracing the new system. Much has been heralded about the desperate need for change, but without clients that are receptive and prepared to consider these alternatives, we will never change.’

We will keep you updated as the build progresses throughout it’s 26 week overall build time.

In the meantime if you are currently planning a similar project speak to our team today to see how masonry alternative build methods could shorten the building time on your project.
