Well, what a year 2017 has been for us! Without a doubt, one of our best yet.
It has seen us start and complete the Tonbridge Extra Care housing scheme, a project of unprecedented scale in terms of Xella’s alternative build method in the UK and one of our most successful projects to date in terms of delivery too. A clear testament to the potential of the Silka Element system and our ability to design and coordinate complex projects of this type.
We are also looking forward to the start of the new year having just secured our largest project ever, scheduled to commence in February. More on that in our January newsletter.
In response to this, and the interest in the very latest building systems we offer, we are expanding our team, with Tom re-joining us earlier this month and two new recruits due to start in January. With the industry increasingly receptive to Modern Methods of Construction and innovative build methods, we are ready to take our approach to the wider marketplace.
Whilst on the subject of people and resource, we have to talk about what has made 2017 the successful year it has been for us. We couldn’t have done it without the on-site teams we’ve employed. Whilst so many in the industry have struggled and concerned themselves with the lack of skilled labour available to them, it’s been a positive story for us here at MFS. We have attracted new sub-contractors, trained and supported them, so that we have had a workforce to be proud of, and one which will serve us well in 2018 and for years to come. We like to think that our adoption of new technologies and our innovative approach is what is allowing us to attract new talent and therefore develop them into the skilled professionals the industry so desperately needs. We are supporting various initiatives to address the industry’s skills shortage and are not resting on our laurels by any means. We want to make the difference and be an example of any employer who doesn’t take its people for granted and supports them for the long-term, not just for the current project.
2017 has also seen us invest more in marketing, with us commissioning a timelapse video of the work we carried out on The Abbeyfield Kent Society’s Extra Care Housing Facility in Tonbridge. This was something completely new for us but we’re thrilled with the results. A definite investment for the business and one we’ll undoubtedly repeat.
In preparation for 2018, we’re working on a new CPD presentation, to take out to a number of interested contractors who have approached us. This presentation will show how we can significantly reduce build time and overall project cost, by introducing modern methods of construction in the most lean and environmentally friendly way. It will also cover the technical specifications and benefits of the building systems we use. An invitation to share what we do in this way, presenting to contractors, is something we love doing. With a few of these in the diary already and a large new project starting in February, we’re excited to come back to the office on 3rd January already!
Thanks for reading this, our final blog of the year. From all of us at Masonry Frame Systems, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year! We hope to see you very soon.
